Project 03 - Comp

as thoughts on what to do for the back panels, i decided to pull information straight from their web site about versa. i then threw in some filler text, and made the back panel a mailer so that this brochure can go postal.

Project 02 - Comps (Status Update)

grid has become the main focus of the identity. all grid formats are based off the logo in proportion to the size of the item. the business card size is proportional to the logo size.

Project 02 - Website & Interactive Book Progress

Its been awhile since I’ve updated the progress of the interactive book. It is to be integrated into a section of the web site titled "portfolio".

Here is what has been done so far:

  • Intro loading segment
  • Progress section
  • About section
  • Contact section
  • Loading of images for interactive book
  • Loading of XML file for content

What needs to be done

  • Add emailer script for contact form
  • Finish styling out text on site (include CSS Stylesheet)
  • Design interactive book segments
  • Add thumbnail preview area
  • Add title/desc to spreads/pages.
  • Update navigation menu rollover/out effects to mimick logo.

So far, everything is written in Flash ActionScript 2. It would have been too much trouble to attempt to learn and program in ActionScript 3 in such a short time, however, I am begining to learn it.

Introduction:

design in the source code

[quote by nietsczhe on usability]

About:

the beauty of the internet is not definitively defined by how it looks, but by how it functions. like the objects you use every day, you gain comfort through their functionality, ergonomics, and interface. interactive design, just like those objects, relies on its functionality. the usefulness of a design is defined by its user interface — is it intuitive and is it useful? the beauty of interactive design for any designer is the ability to create function not just through craft and creative interfaces, but in how the pieces come together to create the user experience. what lies behind the user experience is code, and the effectiveness of it relies on the design of the creator.

About (cont’d):

today’s technolgies have many acroynms and psudonymes. AJAX, PHP, MySQL, ASP, Java, JavaScript, ActionScript, Flash, XML, XHTML, HTML, RSS, CSS, DOM….. more about technology.

Project 02 - Self-Identity Leave-Behind

As part of the project, it was encouraged that we introduce a leave-behind element. With the Swedish culture of simple and minimal (and the whole "build it yourself" IKEA thing), it would be interesting to have a simple, buildable office toy as a leave behind. My interest in simple electronics adds value to this.

Leave behind would be a simple lamp made from perforated foam sheets or thick paper that can be made in a few minutes. The basis of this lamp would be from Hans-Agre Jakobsson, but smaller- 3.5"x3/4" and roughly 3" tall. A self-changing RGB led would be included, along with a battery and a switch that can be placed on one side of the piece.

Project 02 - Finding a Name

I am going to push away from my usual monkier (gleuch.com) and have chosen to go by {tyopgrapi} halvfet (sweedish for bold {typographical}).

www.halvfet.com is now mine. time to take over the world (starting with america, then sweeden… then the world.)

the choice to use a typographical term gives a plethroa of options for play, but i must tred carefully so that i do not overstep or overexaggerate. staying with a simple, sweedish/swiss design format will allow me the option of using grid — something i enjoy.

Poster 01, 02, 03 - Final Wrap-up & Thoughts

Final Thoughts

  • Gatorboard is very difficult to cut. I’ll stick with foamcore as necessary. But it is impressively strong.
  • Also not having enough gatorboard after making a mistake on poster 02, I had to use the other side of the board, thus it has remanients of the other poster on its back. (eck!)
  • Self-lamination is cheaper, but it is very diffcult to do by yourself.
  • My Epson COLOR 3000 is on its last leg. No matter how many times I clean the print heads, re-align the heads, it still streaks. At 300dpi, 720dpi or 1440 dpi… it streaks.
  • Total cost to print, mount, and laminate was roughly $45 (not including ink).
  • I really enjoy this digital method for process notebooks. I’ve quickly looked back at what I need, and it has helped keep me organized.

Poster 03 - Final Mock-up Another Version

Nope, I decided to do another version for the final. This one did not convey the seriousness of the issue. I removed the background, reduced the headline, and made the image black & white. (See later post for design.)

Poster 03 - Idea Selections

Of the ideas and roughts completed earlier, the "Cordially invited" letter and the "Post-It Note on Door" are the two that lend themselves to identification of the concept. More importantly, they lend themselves to being completable in a shorter amount of time.

To complete these (one, not both), I’ll need to compile copy and ideas for imagery. The "post-it note" would not be  too difficulty, as there are a plethora of doors available in town in which this can be done. It can even be done guerilla style. The "cordially invited" would require creating the actual invitation and then photographing it as needed.

Of the two, "cordially invited" appears to be the more convincing of the two, and can be easily supplimented with additional headline and copy.

Copy ideas:

Invitation:

You are cordially invited to burglarize the (last name’s) flat, located at (some addresS) on (some date) between (some time) and (some time).
RSVP is not necessary.

Headline:

An Unlocked Door is an Invitation to Victimization

Body Copy:

Keeping your doors locked is the best burglary prevention method. Safe Partnership is committed to helping the eldery and vulnerable from being victimized. Our goal is to care for the victims and reduce the fear of crime.
